#photo_oftheweek

George J. Patterson
image.jpeg

Each week a new photo selected by the photographer will be posted on the republicofsalt with no caption. These photos will showcase the city and tucked away spots that you may or may not recognize.

1) What’s your favorite type of photo?

I appreciate photos that exhibit reality. Whether it’s a street scene, a portrait, or a landscape, I want to believe that it’s real, in its natural state. There’s nothing better than capturing the split second moment when someone lets their guard down.

2) How did you get into photography?

I’ve always been a “creative” type, if you will. I spent a lot of my youth playing music, reading, and drawing(though I’m not very good at it. It was more like doodling I guess.) My older sister is a photographer as well, so I’ve been exposed to it since I was a young teen. While I was in college for journalism, eight or nine years ago, I spent...

image.jpeg

Local songwriters Mike Powell & Dusty Pas'Cal will take the Odeon stage in Nelson for an intimate night filled with honest music and heartfelt storytelling. Doors open at 7:30 Saturday - admission is $18. Tickets are available online here.

We caught up with Mike Powell for brief discussion about this gig. Two questions, two reasons to see two talented musicians do what they do best - inspire and entertain.

image.jpeg

Mike, Do have Musicians like dusty that inspire you?

1. No one inspires my music more than Syracuse native Martin Sexton. I first saw him play while I was living in Boulder. In my opinion he is the most important man in music. His voice, his songs and his approach to using music as a vehicle for connecting people and navigating his life is inspiring to say the very least. Aside from Marty, there’s nothing I love more than listening to Colin Aberdeen solo – man, I wish I...
